On 4 December 2018, the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania (the National Focal Point) and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Vilnius are organising the opening event of the 2014-2021 European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway Grants in Lithuania. This will consist of a conference dedicated to present to the public the programmes planned to be implemented in the next financial mechanism. A new Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 24 April 2018, allocating a total of €117.6 million to the country.

EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Regional Cooperation: fund updates

Due to the prolonged time of selection process for submitted applications to the EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Regional Cooperation, the announcement of the result of the assessment of the concept notes is delayed.

The call for full proposals will be announced in the shortest possible time and all the shortlisted applicants will be informed about the next steps.

The Agreements were signed in Zagreb today in the presence of the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg.

Under the agreements (MoUs), the three donor countries have allocated €103.4 million to Croatia for the coming seven years. Strengthening innovation, education and justice cooperation. Innovation and business development with focus on green innovation and blue growth will be a key priority. Cooperation in the area of justice will be strengthened with focus on effectivization of the courts. There is also significant contribution to local development with focus on equal opportunities for education of elementary school pupils. The energy and climate change programme will focus on renewable energy. 

New funding period for EEA and Norway Grants with Lithuania

Today, Finance Minister Vilius Šapoka and State Secretary of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Audun Halvorsen, have signed Memoranda of Understanding, according to which Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein will allocate 117.6 million EUR to Lithuania. almost 98% of this amount is invested by the Kingdom of Norway. According to the financial mechanisms of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Norway, the funds allocated to Lithuania will be used to reduce the social and economic exclusion in Lithuania.

New funding period for EEA and Norway Grants with Slovenia

Today, Norway and Slovenia are signing MoUs on funding totalling EUR 37.7 million for the new funding period for the EEA and Norway Grants. The main focus areas are climate and education. 
The Norwegian Environmental Agency will play a key role in the climate change programme, which will focus on adaptation to climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Education is the other main priority. Efforts in this field will include grant schemes, exchanges, professional development of teachers, and cooperation between the education sector and the business sector.

Invitation to bid Fund Operator for the Active Citizens Fund in Romania

In Romania, the allocation to the Active Citizens Fund (the civil society programme) is EUR 46 000 000.

The objective of the Civil Society Programme Area is: ‘Civil society and active citizenship strengthened and vulnerable groups empowered’. The Active Citizens Fund 2014-2021 in Romania shall seek to develop the long-term sustainability and capacity of the civil society sector, with the aim of strengthening its role in promoting democratic participation, active citizenship and human rights.

Poland signed MoU with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway

The three donor countries have allocated €809.3 million to a total of 11 programmes in Poland for the coming seven years. Poland remains the largest beneficiary country of the EEA and Norway Grants.

Support for business development and innovation will be significantly strengthened, with a focus on green innovation and blue growth. Innovation Norway will play a key role, not least in the work to engage more Norwegian companies in cooperation projects. Innovation Norway will also run the programme for social dialogue and decent work.

Greece signed MoU with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway

The three donor countries have allocated €116.7 million to a total of 9 programmes and funds in Greece for the coming seven years. The objectives of the programmes are to contribute to social and economic development in Greece and strengthen the cooperation between Greece and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

Innovation and business development, and migration and asylum are the two areas receiving most funding. Other key areas include energy and environment, poverty reduction and measures to improve the living conditions of the Roma.

Czech Republic signed MoU with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway

Under the agreements (MoUs), which were signed in Prague today, the three donor countries have allocated €184.5 million to a total of 11 programmes and funds. Research and education, the environment and climate change, and culture and human rights are key areas of support. There will also be funding for civil society, the justice and home affairs sector as well as  programmes on health and social dialogue.

EEA and Norwegian funds change logo!

The Financial Mechanism Office introduced a new logo for the EEA and Norwegian funds. New logos must already be used on all newly prepared promotional items and publications.

Original logos can be used on already produced promotional items, roll-ups or publications until 31 October 2017 at the latest .

Business cooperation with Romania

Businesses in Romania and Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway wishing to cooperate under the EEA and Norway Grants business development, innovation and SME programme in Romania can now apply for travel support. 

Under the framework of the programme SMEs Growth Romania, Innovation Norway (the operator of the programme) has released a call for travel support with an available budget of € 50 000.

The objective of the travel support is to facilitate establishment of bilateral partnerships between entities in the donor countries and Romania with the intent to participate in the upcoming call(s) under the programme. Travel grants up to € 1 500 are available to businesses from Romania, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

The waste sector in Romania is full of business opportunities

"In the next years Norwegian companies will find huge opportunities in the Romanian waste sector, especially when paired with project possibilities under the new EEA and Norwegian Financial Mechanism”, says Anne Lise Rognlidalen, programme manager of the Green Industry Innovation Programme in Romania.

Every day across Europe, you can see traces of how the EEA and Norway Grants work: millions have benefited from improved health services and an exceeding number of people can now enjoy the benefits of more environmental friendly technologies. More people work in green businesses, and several scientists and students can spend their time indulging in research and studies.

Portugal signed MoU with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway

Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway have signed a new cooperation agreement with Portugal under the EEA and Norway Grants 2014-2021, for a total of more than EUR 100 million. Of this amount, EUR 62 million will be used to strengthen business, research and climate cooperation.  

Significant opportunities for cooperation

A total of six public agencies and institutions from the donor countries will play a key role in facilitating cooperation between partners in the three donor countries and Portugal. Over the next few months, these agencies will work with their Portuguese counterparts to develop the programmes. Open calls for project proposals will be announced at a later stage.

The Fund for Youth Employment was launched

With the new EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Youth Employment, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway aim to support measures that promote youth employment across Europe. Despite positive tendencies in 2016, access to a functional, decent labour market continues to be a challenge for young people in Europe. The effects of exclusion from the labour market are serious and a threat towards the development of social and economic cohesion.

An open invitation to cooperate across borders

"In line with the Norwegian Government’s priorities, nearly half the funds have been allocated to business and research. The cooperation agreements that will be signed today are an open invitation to Norwegian actors who are interested in taking part in creating a green, competitive and inclusive Europe," says Norwegian Minister of EEA and EU Affairs, Frank Bakke-Jensen. The Minister signed the MoUs on behalf of Norway in the Estonian capital earlier today.

Norway grants - B2B matchmaking event

The Norway Grants support green industry innovation in eight of the beneficiary countries. This is a new business development programme, primarily targeting small and medium-sized enterprises. Another notable feature of the Norway Grants is the support to promotion of decent work and tripartite dialogue in 12 countries. March 14th -16th around 60 Central and Eastern European companies within business areas such as modern production and manufacturing and smart societies will gather to learn from Norwegian knowledge and expertise in their business areas.

Sofia Investment Agency in cooperation with Innovation Norway are organized a matchmaking event between Norwegian and Bulgarian organizations and companies. The first part of the event was organized in Sofia – “Sofia meets Oslo” during the period 24 – 26 January 2017, and second part will be organized in Oslo “Oslo meets Sofia” in April 2017, and is supported through the Fund for Bilateral Activities, part of BG10-Green Industry Innovation Programme Bulgaria.

The demand for energy storage in Germany is on the rise

Germany has a high number of installed renewables and a supportive policy structure that is driving the energy storage market. The market offers opportunities for players across the energy storage value chain as Germany needs reliable and efficient technologies to transform the energy system. Based on the Paris climate agreement from October 2016, Germany has set the goal to increase the share of renewable energy to at least 80 percent of the electricity consumption by the year 2050.

Medtech Agreement with Canada

An agreement signed between Oslo Medtech and MaRS opens markets for Norwegian companies to sell their technologies directly into hospitals and elderly care facilities in Canada. This global growth project will assist Norwegian medtech companies in approaching the Canadian healthcare market. During the visit of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit to Canada in November 2016, an agreement was signed between Oslo Medtech and MaRS to help Norwegian medical innovators explore market opportunities in Canada, as well as vice versa. 

Green Industry Innovation Bulgaria - Call for proposals

Call for proposals for travel support and seed money under the Fund for Bilateral Relations, part of BG 10 - Green Industry Innovation Programme Bulgaria is launched as of 12 December 2016.

The objective of the Fund for Bilateral Relations on a programme level is to strengthen the bilateral relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and Norway through facilitating networking, exchange, transfer and sharing of knowledge, technology experience and good practices. The maximum budget set aside for this call is EUR 100,000. Two types of support in the frame of the Fund for Bilateral Relations will be offered: Travel Support and Seed Money (small projects).
